Daniel Nettels

Daniel Nettels studied physics in Bonn. He received his PhD from the University of Fribourg (CH) for his work on laser spectroscopy and atomic physics. In 2004 he switched to biochemistry when he joined the newly established group of Prof. Ben Schuler at the Department of Biochemistry. Daniel Nettels’ skills in fluorescence spectroscopy, biophysics, computer programming, and data analysis significantly contribute to the group’s investigation of folding, misfolding, and dynamics of proteins. In addition to classical biochemical methods the group utilises single-molecule spectroscopy. This relatively new technique allows the study of multiple phenomena, including very fast conformational dynamics of proteins.
Apart from his official teaching assignments, Daniel Nettels gladly introduces these methods to the newcomers in the group.

Daniel Nettels is involved in the following lectures and courses:
BCH 306 Biochemical and Biophysical Methods
BCH 203 Biochemical Practical Course
BCH 204 Biochemical Practical Course for Biologists
Biochemical Practical Course for Medical Students
