Susanne Kassube joined the Department of Biochemistry as an SNSF Assistant Professor on June 1st, 2022.
Research in the Kassube group focuses on understanding the molecular mechanisms of Fe-S protein biogenesis factors and DNA repair enzymes. We employ structural biology methods (cryo-electron microscopy and X-ray crystallography) in combination with biochemical and biophysical techniques to obtain mechanistic insights into the inner workings of large macromolecular machines.
Susanne Kassube studied Biology at the University of Heidelberg, Germany. In 2013, she received her Ph.D. in Biophysics from the University of California, Berkeley, USA, where she conducted her thesis research in the group of Dr. Eva Nogales. She then moved to Switzerland and was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Friedrich Miescher Institute for Biomedical Research in Basel. Susanne Kassube joined the Department of Biochemistry at the University of Zurich in 2021 as a senior scientist, and became an SNSF Assistant Professor in 2022.
